Knee pain is rarely only the knee

Load, tolerance and the person

A joint fails where load meets tolerance. KneeSchool teaches both sides of that equation, so the plan covers the person and not only the scan.

Six factors outside the joint

Each of these changes either the load going through the knee or the tissue's tolerance of it. A plan that ignores them treats half the problem.

  • Hip and trunk control

Weak abductors and poor trunk control shift load onto the medial compartment and the patella.

  • Foot and ankle

Stiff ankles and collapsing arches change how force travels up the limb during landing and running.

  • Training history

Most overuse injury follows a change in volume, surface or footwear within the preceding six weeks.

  • Sleep and stress

Poor sleep lowers pain thresholds and slows tissue repair, which alters the response to rehabilitation.

  • Metabolic health

Body mass, diabetes and smoking influence cartilage health, wound healing and surgical risk.

  • Previous injury

An earlier meniscal or ligament injury remains the strongest predictor of the next one.
