Curriculum Links

The careers talk supports careers education and the Gatsby benchmarks on encounters with employers and employees.

The biomechanics session supports GCSE and A level physical education on levers and movement, and working scientifically in biology.

The virtual tour supports GCSE biology on the skeleton and joints, and physical education on injury.

What This Covers

Four things are planned for schools and clubs.

A careers talk on routes into knee medicine, built on chapter 0.3 and pitched at years nine to thirteen.

A virtual operating theatre tour, showing what a knee operation involves without any material that would distress a school audience.

A practical biomechanics session, run from the experiments in 0.5.4 with no equipment needed.

A question and answer session with someone working in knee medicine.

None of these can be booked yet. There is no booking route on this site and no contact form, so a school cannot currently arrange any of them, and this page does not pretend otherwise. Setting up that route is recorded on the build status page.

How to Use It

What a school can do today, without waiting for the programme to open.

Run the biomechanics session yourself. Everything it needs is on page 0.5.4, including the safety limits, and it needs no outside visitor.

Use the careers talk material as a lesson. Chapter 0.3 covers the route to becoming a surgeon, the day to day work, the non surgical careers and the examinations, written for school readers.

Set the Knee Explorer Certificate as a short topic for a form group or a sports team.

Ask your careers adviser about local hospital and university outreach. Those schemes exist independently of this site and are often under subscribed.

What to Watch For

Three things that will apply when the programme does open, and that are worth knowing if you are planning around it.

Any visitor to a school needs the usual safeguarding checks, and arranging those takes longer than arranging the talk.

The theatre tour is pitched to avoid distressing imagery, and a teacher should still preview it before showing it to a class.

Nothing in the programme is promotional. The Junior Academy carries no commercial content of any kind, and a session that advertised a service would breach the site's own governance.

Where to Find Out More

Chapter 0.3 holds the careers material the talk is built on.

Simple Biomechanics Experiments holds the practical session in full.

The build status page records what is outstanding before the programme can open, including the booking route.

Key Learning Points

  • Four outreach sessions are planned: careers, a theatre tour, biomechanics and a question session.
  • None can be booked yet, because no booking route exists.
  • The biomechanics session and the careers material can be run by a school today.
  • Visitor safeguarding checks take longer to arrange than the session itself.
  • Nothing in the programme is promotional, under the Junior Academy's own governance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do we register interest? There is no route yet. When one exists it will be linked from this page and recorded on the build status page.

Q. Is there a charge? No charge is planned. The Junior Academy carries no commercial content, and that applies to the outreach programme as much as to the pages.

Q. What age group are the sessions for? The careers talk is aimed at years nine to thirteen. The biomechanics session works from year seven upwards.

Q. Can a sports club book rather than a school? That is the intention. Coaching Safely is the page written for the club context in the meantime.

If a pupil or athlete raises a knee problem during any of these sessions, the answer is the same as it is in a lesson: have it assessed by a doctor or physiotherapist rather than discussed on the day.

References

No reference list is attached to this draft. Evidence verification has not run, because source retrieval was unavailable at generation time. Under the Operations Handbook a missing reference is acceptable and an invented one is a critical failure, so nothing has been cited. This page carries no entry requirement, test score, fee, deadline or statistic, because those change every year and none could be checked against an official source. Where a figure would normally go, the page points to the body that publishes it instead. Every claim is listed for verification in the accompanying handoff block.

Safety. KneeSchool is educational and does not give individual medical advice. Seek urgent assessment for a knee that cannot bear weight after an injury, a hot swollen knee with a fever, or new numbness, weakness or coldness in the leg or foot.
